Booking a test too early is one of the most expensive mistakes a learner can make. Your instructor will tell you honestly when your driving is at test standard, and we’ll run mock tests under real conditions first so nothing on the day is a surprise. The first hurdle, taken at a DVSA test centre. Fifty multiple-choice questions drawn from the Highway Code, road signs and safe driving practice. You’ll need 43 correct to pass.
Sat in the same session as your multiple-choice questions. Fourteen video clips, scored out of 75, with 44 needed to pass. You must pass both halves in one sitting, fall short on either and the whole test is retaken.
An eyesight check, two vehicle safety questions, general driving, twenty minutes of independent driving, and one reversing manoeuvre. Up to 15 driving faults is still a pass. One serious or dangerous fault is not.
The theory test costs £23. The practical is £62 on weekdays, or £75 for evenings, weekends and bank holidays. These fees are set by the DVSA and are the same at every test centre, always book on GOV.UK, as third-party booking sites charge extra for exactly the same appointment.
